Oct 2021

‘Experience the Art of Science’ is a bold new campaign for our development services offering focused on the creative thinking and novel approaches that go into our work. The campaign is represented visually using macro shots of real scientific images that look like abstract art.

To bring this theme to life, we have spoken to scientists on our team to find out exactly what ‘Experience the Art of Science’ means to them – both in their work and outside of work.

In our latest ‘Experience the Art of Science’ series, we meet Debbie Lemons, Senior Regulatory Compliance External Lead Auditor at our Rocky Mount facility who enjoys painting as well as other arts and crafts.

How are you innovative in your role at Pfizer?

"I have been at the Rocky Mount site for over 23 years and have experience in various roles in regulatory, operations and quality. As a creative person, you have to be able to think outside of the box and use a multitude of resources to complete the task at hand. I apply that same approach in all of my roles and look for opportunities to think outside of the box and make the necessary changes to support continuous improvements."

How are you creative outside of work?

"I have always had a creative soul, so my creativity comes naturally. I express my creativity in various ways, including photography, scrapbooking, cooking and baking, food styling, gardening and painting. Most recently, I felt led to paint and to share my art with others. I want to spread joy to others through the art that I create, and I know Pfizer CentreOne scientists feel the same about the work they do as joy is one of the team’s values."

What does ‘art of science’ mean to you?

img4Science and art have similarities in that both can be complex and there are many levels involved prior to reaching the end product but the outcome is remarkable. Scientists and artists have a keen sense of awareness of the challenges that they are faced with and can look beyond what is “normal” and see it at a micro view. Scientists are innovative and spend many hours performing research and development which leads them to amazing discoveries and life-saving drugs. By embracing all of the challenges faced each day with a mindset of being creative and innovative, you can make a difference in the lives of many.
