We aim to follow and achieve the objectives set out in Pfizer’s EHS policy. This policy is implemented through a comprehensive EHS Management System and overseen by governance arrangements that involve colleagues within Pfizer CentreOne. Our performance is regularly monitored and reviewed to ensure our standards meet Pfizer’s expectations, and that the EHS Policy continues to be of value to our business, customers and patients.

Environmental and sustainability commitments

We have a long-standing commitment to protecting the environment and the communities in which we operate, including a commitment to all 17 of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. We continue to find ways to minimize our impact on the environment during the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.

For example, at our Kalamazoo manufacturing site in Michigan, USA, we’ve implemented projects that have annually reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 24,000 metric tons and hazardous waste disposal volume by 10 million kilograms.

At our Puurs facility in Belgium, the online wind turbines have reduced the CO2 emissions by 13,000 tons per year, with onsite renewable energy sources providing more than half of Puurs’ electrical needs.

Importantly, our goals can help you meet your sustainability goals.

Pfizer received an ‘A’ Supplier Engagement Rating by the Carbon Disclosure Project for the second consecutive year in recognition of the work with external suppliers to drive emission reductions across our supply chain.

All our facilities quantify water use, report performance against reduction targets, and support community efforts during drought conditions. We follow the framework under the U.N. Global Compact Water Mandate to guide our Water Sustainability Program.

We are dedicated to collaborating across our supply chain to reduce the environmental footprint of our packaging. We leverage innovative packaging materials, designs and systems that minimize our impact on the environment, provide benefits to patients and reduce costs.

Through our Greener Workplace platform, we strive for continuous improvement to maximize efficiency of operations and improve environmental performance. We are committed to designing and constructing "greener buildings" that conserve energy and natural resources and help occupants engage in "greener" behaviors.

We support and undertake environmental projects that restore land, preserve wildlife, and help conserve natural resources.

We are finding innovative ways to minimize our impact on the environment during the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. In particular, we leverage our Green Chemistry and Biotechnology program to advance scientific innovation to help develop processes that are more sustainable, environmentally sound and cost-effective.

Environmental stewardship includes managing waste in a responsible manner. We take a multi-faceted approach by focusing on source reduction, waste minimization, and recycling improvements. Typically, this is done at both the site and regional level by establishing targets to reduce the generation of solid waste and reuse solvents through recovery processes.

Together with our colleagues, partners and customers, we continually strive to improve our EHS standards as part of our commitment to positively impact patients’ lives.
